News update for 2007.08.12

Exciting news (at least for me) tonight. The site has gotten somewhat of a makeover. The general design was moved around a bit, but the real interesting part is what's under the hood. I was able to use the knowledge I've gained of HTML and CSS to overhaul the structure of the site.

Designed with web accessibility guidelines in mind, the HTML is now not only simpler, resulting in a page footprint of as little as 50% of the previous design, but also much more semantically correct so those who don't use CSS or those who use screen readers or other assistance should get a reasonable experience. The HTML is XHTML 1.0 Strict compliant, the CSS is 3.0 complaint, and the site meets all automated checks for Section 508 and W3C WCAG compliance with the exception of one guideline to which I am vehemently opposed (default values in form fields). Now that I've given myself a pat on the back for a job well done, you can proceed with your life as before!
